The Language of Texture with Matrix and Michelle O’Connor
Any hairstylist, colorist, and/or barber worth their time is continually educating themselves on new hair techniques, upcoming color trends, and new ways to approach the umbrella of hair. Unfortunately, for far too many stylists across the United States, anything more than a basic education for textured and natural hair at hair schools is non-existent. Matrix and its global Artistic Director, Michelle O’Connor, seek to change that through a new series, both online and in-shop classes, that focuses on inclusivity and diversity in the hair world.
The 4 part video series, The Language of Texture, addresses the following. The first will build confidence in speaking about textured hair without hesitation or fear. The second will be addressing the cultural “isms” around textured hair. The third will bridge the gap between wavy, curly, and coily hair. The course finishes with selling through curl education and products.
Ms. O’Connor has been a professional hairstylist since 2000. Her steep ascent through the hair industry has seen her win 5 North American Hairstylist Awards (NAHA), and serve on the education boards of Mizani, Matrix, and Ulta.
